Overview
OUR HERITAGE

early1_1.jpgIt was decided to Immigrate to America, the land of opportunities "the land of milk and honey . . .". The year was 1888 when Anders Johan Anderson first planted the Anderson roots in the Haxtun area.

"We settled upon a farm, a tree claim or a 'pre-emtion' about two miles east and one mile south of Haxtun where father had built a two-room sod house. Its deep windows and wooden floor provided us a shelter from the heat and from the cold. Mother soon made it look homelike and it was clean."

- Gust Anderson, November 26, 1961

The Anderson family farm was passed on through several generations for the next 100 years. The farm grew to several thousand acres of corn and wheat and also included a feedlot. In 1989, Anderson Incorporated was split because of the involvement of numerous heirs to the farm. Gilbert continued to farm his share of the land as well as land he had purchased himself in the late 70's and early 80's. He proceeded to follow suit with the family in planting corn and wheat but adding beans and sunflowers to the rotation. Experimenting with alfalfa in the mid 90's seemed to provide optimism for the future success of his farm. Much like his grandfather back in 1888, Gilbert believed in being a good steward of the land.

"He became a good farmer, believing in feeding the land before it grew hungry, weeding it before it grew dirty and gave it rest before it grew weary." - Gust Anderson.

Much of Anderson Alfalfa's success is owed to values such as this, passed down through the generations.
