Q: Do you sell hay?

A: We provide a variety of hay and forage products to suit a variety of industry needs. Please see our product page for a complete list of products we can provide.

Q: Do you have trucks to delivery your hay products?

A: We deliver both in and out of state. We operate four semis with flat beds, step decks, shuffle floors and chain floors. Please call prior to arrival to make sure we have someone available to load you in a timely manner.

Q: Do you have certified hay and straw?

Mapquest Link

Our Retail outlet is located 2 miles East of Windsor on Hwy 392.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?

A: Yes, we accept both Visa and Mastercard.

Q: Is your hay blister beetle free?

A: Yes. Blister beetles can be an occasional problem in the Upper Midwest but rarely in Northeast Colorado and we have never detected any on our farm. Blister beetles are attracted to flowering plants and weeds and because most of our hay is cut at a pre-bloom stage and generally weed free we don't seem to have problems with this pest.

Q: What is haylage?

A: Silage or haylage is plant material that has been fermented in a silo or plastic bags or wraps. It is an excellent feed for horses if managed correctly. Please see our product page for a complete list of haylage products that we provide.

Q: I've heard preservative-treated hay is not safe for my horse. Is that true?

A: Application of preservatives helps produce mold-free hay. Most preservatives applied to horse hay contain organic acids that are the same as those found in the horse's gastrointestinal tract. Initially, some horses may prefer hay without preservative, but if they are not given a choice, horses will consume the same amount of preservative-treated and non-treated hay.

Q: Do you use preservatives on your hay?

A: Very rarely, but we do in some instances to avoid weather damaged hay.

Q: Will the excess protein in alfalfa hay damage my horse's kidneys?

A: Normal healthy horses can metabolize and excrete the extra protein in alfalfa hay without damaging their kidneys. They may however drink more water and produce more urine as part of the normal excretion process. All horses should have access to clean water at all times.

Q: Is alfalfa too rich for horses?

A: As with any feed, the nutrient content of hay should be matched appropriately with the animals nutrient needs. Early-maturity alfalfa hay is very nutrient dense and is suitable for mares and growing horses. The intake of early-maturity alfalfa hay by recreational horses must be monitored and restricted. Late-maturity alfalfa hay is less nutrient dense and is suitable for horses with lower nutrient requirements.

Q: Does alfalfa make horses cough?

A: Any kind of hay that contains dust or mold may make a horse cough. We offer a high moisture haylage product for horses with chronic health problems that may eliminate the coughing problems.
